GRACE AWAKENING

David prayed in the 51st psalm, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” The Rev. Kathryn Love, assistant director of the ELCA’s Evangelizing Church, put it this way when she talked about faith: “We leak.” We need renewal. Jesus announced, “The kingdom of God has come near; repent and believe in the good news. We need renewal.
What is Grace Awakening?
Grace Awakening is a three-day event sponsored by four Lutheran congregations in Lexington: First Lutheran, Holly Grove Lutheran, Pilgrim Lutheran and St. Luke’s Lutheran. The ELCA Evangelizing Church Team will be meeting in Lexington just prior to Grace Awakening and will provide leadership for the activities, including renewal services on Friday and Saturday evenings. Lively music will be provided by Exit 9. Youth services with a bonfire on both Friday and Saturday evening, a prayer breakfast, workshops, servant event and five meals will also be offered during Grace Awakening.
Who will lead us?
The four local Lutheran congregations are planning the events. Three ELCA-trained evangelists: Pastor Timothy Poston, a native of North Carolina who serves a church is Philadelphia, speaks on Friday evening. Pastor Anthony Chatman, whose 20 years of ministry included Bible studies he led with the NFL Tennessee Titans, will preach on Saturday evening. Pastor Timothy Graham brings a special message that will touch youth and young people in a unique way. Thirty members of the ELCA’s Evangelizing Church Team will minister along with the local pastors.
What will we do?
Experience inspiring worship services. Listen to powerful gospel messages. Receive personal grace at stations for confession and forgiveness, Baptism, remembrance of baptism, anointing for healing at the services. Receive the body and blood of Jesus for you. Listen to a concert by Exit 9. Attend a prayer breakfast will be held on Saturday morning. Learn at two of sixteen workshops. Serve at Davidson Crisis Ministries will be offered Saturday afternoon.
Where will Grace Awakening be held?
The Friday and Saturday services for adults and youth will be held at the Holly Grove Lutheran Church softball field. The Saturday morning workshops will be held at each of the four Lutheran churches. The prayer breakfast will be at Holly Grove Lutheran fellowship hall.
Who will come?
Grace Awakening is intended for every one who desires to experience renewal: all members of the four churches, our friends and neighbors, no matter what faith, or if they have no faith. All are welcome. We trust God to move and renew us.
